Hello! I hope everyone is having a great semester so far. My name is Grant Oldham and I am a Junior majoring in History Education here at Appalachian State!

I am from Pinehurst, North Carolina and I have always been intrigued by history. Especially the history of places I’ve seen lost to time or events I have heard about through lectures. My favorite periods of history are the colonization of the Americas by Europe, WW2 , and the Cold War. Those are just a few I could think of quickly. As for my goals in this class, HIS-3630, I want to obtain ways I can better improve my use of technology in my future classroom. I also want to be able to explain to others new technology or media that doesn’t confuse or take away from the lesson planned.

I wanted to include a photo of something that was historical but represents who I am. This photo shows a picture of BALL mason jars coming from many different thrift and antique stores. John Landis Mason invented the Mason Jar on November 30, 1858. In 1884, Ball Brothers Corporation began manufacturing glass home-canning jars, the product that established Ball as a household name and licensed Mason’s design. My mom had given me one to save spare change in and I became obsessed with the history behind each different kind of jar. So much so, I started to collect them and other interesting glassware I come across!

A small portion of my BALL mason jar collection.

Here is a link to a more lengthy history of BALL mason jars if anyone is interested.
