“A set of exclusive rights awarded to a copyright holder or owner for an original and creative work of authorship fixed in a tangible medium of expression.”(What is Copy Right) (Copyright and Intellectual Property Toolkit, Univ. of Pittsburgh Library System)

I think that this quote works really well with the body of the article because it allows a short and simple definition of what copyright is and what it means for the creator of the original piece and how copyright really extends to really anything that is original or has work of authorship. Another reason why I think this is a good quote to use from this article is that I feel that a lot of people think that copyright is something you really have to look into and read into to really understand it and how it can apply to the work that you are using and the work that you have already used. I just feel like some people can be put off or scared of copyright but this quote pretty much spells it out for you.

“The Copyright Act gives all authors a set of rights that only they may exercise. These include the right to make copies, to prepare derivative works, to publicly distribute, display and perform the work, and in the case of digital sound recordings, to perform the works over a digital network.” (“Copyright for Instructors.” UMW DTLT, November 22, 2016.)

This like the previous quote tells us a kind of definition of what copyright is but the difference between the first quote and this one is that this quote goes more into detail about what copyright means for the people and authors that make the original work. I also think that when most people think about copyright they just think about someone stealing someone else’s research or something along those lines but in this quote it goes more into detail about the more online and technical side of copyright.

“How much of the original work is appropriated by the new work? Small amounts favor fair use, but large amounts do not rule it out. Again, it depends on the four parameters taken together.” (“Copyright for Instructors.” UMW DTLT, November 22, 2016.)

This last quote talks about fair use and how it applies to the original work of the author and how much is just the right amount to use if you are not the author of the particular work that you are trying to use for your article, class, or in general. I thought this quote was important to the argument of copyright because in this quote it highlights the four parameters that this article discussed earlier in the text, and how you need to be aware of the main four parameters so you know when something is fair use and when something is not and copyrighted.
