I’m Dr. Rwany Sibaja, Associate Professor and Director of the History Education Program. I’m excited to work with you this semester.
I earned my History degrees from George Mason University (Ph.D.), University of North Carolina at Greensboro (M.A.), and Elon University (B.A.), where I was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. Before arriving to Boone, I was a postdoctoral fellow for faculty diversity in Maryland at UMBC. My research areas include modern Latin America, Mass Culture, Digital History, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
This is my 10th year at App State, but my 21st as an educator in North Carolina. I’m a proud First-Generation scholar, and son of Costa Rican immigrants. Education in the U.S. opened doors for me that have been a truly blessing, which I work each day to paying back by offering my students the best education possible.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and adventuring with my wife, two children (both of whom are in college), and our dog Django.
