DIGITAL TOOL for INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH HISTORY PROJECT (with LESSON PLAN)

  • W01 >> Begin thinking about which topics you will choose from to research
  • W02 >> Continue preliminary steps by choosing research topic and which approach fits best.
  • W03 >> Due no later than by Feb 8: Share Google Doc link to your lesson plan template.
    • Provide topic (Lesson/Presentation title) and approach (draft of LEQ/Presentation Objectives).
    • Consider what you would look for in assessing for learning and provide a draft description under “Assessments”
    • List 3-4 research sources in the “Sources” section
  • W04 >> Continue research. Add primary and secondary source research items in the “Sources” section of your lesson plan; establish your essential question and objectives (standards-based)
    • Secondary Sources due by Feb 22, Primary Sources by Feb 29
  • W05 >> Due no later than Mar 8: 1st draft of Lesson Plan [topic, EQ, standards, activities + rationale, assessment(s), materials, and sources]
    • Post on AsULearn with links to products you are creating, or already created
  • W06 >> Work on digital product(s). 30-min. lab time for peer review
  • W07 >> Update your lesson plan based on instructor comments. 30-min. lab time for peer review
  • W08 >> Due no later than Mar 29: Final lesson plan with links to products.
    • Post final work on AsULearn (Google Doc=lesson plan; links to product(s)
    • Write a brief blog post with hyperlinks or embeds to LP and products.

  • W09 >> Revisions to lesson plan with links to products are due no later than by March 29 (cut off)
  • W10 >> Receive feedback; decide if revision is needed.
    • Revise if not satisfied with grade; otherwise, nothing is due this week.

  • W09 >> Individual research. Brainstorm possible collections to organize items in the Omeka site.
  • W10 >> Set-up Omeka.net site. Create collections pages. Finalize/select topic by editing folder name in Zotero Group Library.

    • Discuss roles for the group part of the assignment.
    • Due by March 29: Share preliminary primary and secondary research resources in your Zotero sub-folder. Individual work—post 2-3 items (each group member) with complete metadata, tagging, file (hi-res), and description.
  • W11 >> Lab Week
    • Group meets to discuss next steps (descriptions of collections, About page, website design choices, possible Exhibit builder approach, lesson plan). Discuss roles for the group part of the assignment.
    • Each student submits the next 2-3 items.
  • W12 >> Due on April 9: First Cut Groups peer review other sites in progress, work on their own.
    • 20-30 min. “poster session” presentations of Omeka Site 1.0 (students present, but also rotate around the room to listen to 5 min. presentations from other groups)
  • W13 >> Due: April 16 & 18 >> Second Cut Expo
    • Formal Presentations from each group. (2 concurrent presentations, 15 mins + 5 mins of Q&A, 3 rounds).
    • Individual work: All 10 items with complete images and metadata published.
    • Group work: All collections have full descriptions and correct items associated with them

READING ANALYSIS: Zotero

Students will be Zotero Note Writers.

Zotero Note Writers

For students who already took a previous course with me (HIS 3626 or 3310), you have first choice to be in the second group: Zotero Note Writers. You will submit an analysis of 7 course readings from the semester. Notes will be posted in the HIS 3630 group library.

  • Two notes are provided in the main group folder: a) Directions for the assignment; b) a readings analysis template (copy and fill out this template for each reading in the week you are completing this assignment).
  • Aim to submit 4 notes by the midterm, and the final 3 notes by the end of the semester. However, you can finish early.

ZOTERO NOTES ASSIGNMENT – completed by April 25 (cut off date to accept work)


Final Exam is due on Exam Day by the end of the exam period: Thursday MAY 9, 8am-10:30am
